Japan's temples are profound symbols of the nation's spiritual heritage and architectural ingenuity. Beyond spirituality, temples offer a window into Japan’s history, art, and communal practices.
Mount Fuji is Japan's highest and most iconic peak, which be considered as a sacred symbol in Japanese culture. It is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site, recognized for its cultural significance and breathtaking beauty.
Japanese shrines, known as "jinja," are sacred spaces dedicated to the worship of kami, the spirits or deities in Shinto, Japan's indigenous religion. Shrines are integral to Japanese culture, serving as places for prayer, festivals, and community gatherings.
Sumo is a living Japanese tradition that brings together sports, culture, and spirituality. Whether you're watching it live or simply learning about it, the history and rituals behind sumo provide a unique glimpse into Japan’s profound cultural heritage.
The Shinkansen(bullet train) is one of Japan's most iconic symbols of technological innovation and efficiency. Known for its punctuality, comfort, and safety, Shinkansen is not just a mode of transportation, but a quintessential part of your travel experience.
Built primarily during the 16th and 17th centuries, Japanese castles served as military strongholds and residences for powerful samurai lords. Known for their striking architecture and historical significance, these castles are symbols of the country’s feudal past.
Japanese tea ceremony is a deeply ritualistic and meditative practice centered around the preparation and consumption of powdered green tea(matcha). It's a moment to connect with nature, tradition, and inner peace, offering a unique window into Japan's culture of grace and simplicity.
Geisha are traditional Japanese female artists known for their mastery in the arts of music, dance, and conversation. Wearing distinctive attire, including elaborate kimonos, obi sashes, and intricately styled hair, they entertain guests with performances of classical music, shamisen playing, or graceful traditional dance.
Kimono is a traditional Japanese garment known for its elegant design, featuring long sleeves, a wraparound style, and a wide obi belt. Often worn for special occasions such as weddings, festivals, and tea ceremonies, kimono represents Japan’s cultural heritage and is admired for its craftsmanship, vibrant colors, and intricate patterns that reflect the seasons, nature, and family lineage.
A traditional Japanese shopping street is a lively, bustling area where you'll find a mix of local shops, street food vendors, and family-owned businesses that have been passed down through generations. These streets offer a glimpse into Japan’s rich cultural heritage, combining history, craftsmanship, and the everyday life of local communities.
Japanese cuisine is a harmonious blend of fresh, seasonal ingredients, with dishes ranging from delicate sushi and sashimi to hearty ramen and savory tempura. Each region of Japan offers unique flavors, showcasing centuries-old culinary traditions that prioritize balance, texture, and presentation.
Ninjas were covert agents skilled in espionage, sabotage, and guerrilla warfare, often working in the shadows to protect or undermine feudal lords during Japan's warring periods. On the other hand, samurai were noble warriors bound by a strict code of honor, known as bushido, who served their masters with loyalty, courage, and discipline, shaping Japan’s military history and culture.

Kaminarimon is the first thing that comes to mind when you think of Asakusa Temple. A large red lantern is its mark. On both sides of the gate stand statues which are images of the gods of wind and thunder, Fujin and Raijin.
Hozomon is the gate following Kaminarimon, and there is a main hall ahead of this gate. The images of Nio are standing on the left and right of Hozomon. They are the gatekeepers of the temple, protecting the Buddha from bad things.
1300 years ago, there was Kannon caught in the net of brothers fishing in the nearby Sumida River. This Kannon is enshrined in the main hall. The present building was rebuilt in 1958.

Around Zojoji Temple
Notes: Not going up the Tower, just enjoy taking photo with it from Zojoji Temple.
One of the most iconic perspectives to capture Tokyo Tower is with Zojoji Temple in the foreground. This can easily be done from the grounds directly in front of the Main Hall.
This statue of Amida Buddha is historically significant: it was the same statue venerated long ago by Tokugawa Ieyasu, the first Shogun of the Edo Period, and final unifier of Japan.
There is a small garden with rows of stone statues, called jizo. These particular jizo represent the unborn children lost in childbirth, miscarriage, or abortion. Parents visit to decorate the statues with clothing and small toys, easing the journey into the afterlife.

In Lake Kawaguchiko Area
Notes: If time permits (due to long queuing during peak season)
Lake Kawaguchi sparkles like a spectacular sapphire gem from the top of the ropeway.
Besides the scenic Lake Kawaguchi, you're able to view the awe-inspiring snowcapped Mount Fuji waving at you from the observation deck in a clear day.
Even if the weather is cloudy, it's fun to search behind the heavy clouds to find the shape of Mt Fuji.
The park begins at the base of Mt. Arakurayama and extends up the mountain. At the top of a 398 stair hike is an observation deck that looks out over the cityscape of Fujiyoshida City and majestic Mt. Fuji towering above.
The Arakura Fuji Sengen Shrine was built during the Edo period and attracts many locals who come to worship. It is a shrine boasting a long history and is a spot of great significance to the people of the local area.
On cloudy day, playing hide-and-seek with Mount Fuji is a different kind of fun. If you can't see Mt.Fuji, the landmark Chureito Pagoda is always greeting you at there.

In Fujiya Kanko Center
Among the breathtaking structures at Nikko Toshogu, the five-storied pagoda is the most conspicuous because of its height. It stands near the main entrance. The five stories represent the elements of existence in ascending order: earth, water, fire, wind, and void.
The Yomeimon Gate is Japan's most lavishly decorated gate. It is covered with 508 detailed carvings of children and elders and mythical beasts and is a masterpiece of Edo-period craftsmanship.
To get to Tokugawa Ieyasu's tomb, you have to pass through the Sakashitamon, where you can find the Nemuri-neko, and go through a long road and climb 207 steep steps made of stone.
The engraving of the "Three Wise Monkeys" catches the eye of many visitors. They stand for the old teachings of childhood: speak no evil, hear no evil, see no evil - the last one is also often exchanged for "do no evil." This monkey sculpture has eight different sides which are said to represent a human life.
When entering the ground of Toshogu you'll first see three distinct buildings that are also known as the "Three Sacred Storehouses". Harnesses and costumes are kept inside to be used in the shrine's spring and fall festivals, while the famous carving "The Imaginary Elephants" can be seen right under the roof.
A path to the left of Yomeimon leads to the Honjido Hall which features the "Crying Dragon". This is a large painting of a dragon on the ceiling of the hall, which is thus named because a bright ringing sound can be heard when two pieces of wood are clapped directly under its head due to the acoustics of the hall.

Notes: If the cherry blossom season arrive, you can enjoy the beauty of sakura around the bridge and its upstream area.
The area upstream of the Uji Bridge is a cherished spot for sakura (cherry blossom) viewing. More than 2,000 cherry trees line the riverbank here.
From Uji Bridge can overlook the Asagiri Bridge and Tachibana Island.
So relaxing to walk along the river and cross at one of the many bridges, enjoying the beautiful cherry blossoms in late March and early April.

As you walk towards Todai-ji Temple, you'll pass through the impressive Nandai-mon, or Great South Gate, a national treasure. Standing 25 meters tall, the gate features the must-see "Kongo Rikishi" statues, crafted by renowned sculptors Unkei and Kaikei.
When you enter the Great Buddha Hall, you'll be greeted by the imposing figure of Nara's Daibutsu-sama, the Great Buddha. Officially named "Rushanabutsu" (the Buddha who illuminates the world), this 15m tall statue with a 5m long face is the spiritual symbol of the Kegon sect of Buddhism.
At the back right of the Great Buddha Hall, behind the giant Buddha statue, there's a pillar with a hole said to be the size of the Buddha's nostril. Those who can pass through it are believed to be granted good health and protection from bad luck.

You can see the Main Keep from the moment you enter the Himeji Park located on the grounds of Himeji Castle.
Another good point to capture an imposing view of the Main Keep is from the Bizen Maru. Originally, this area was part of the inner citadel and served as the residence of the castle lord, Terumasa Ikeda. Situated right next to the Main Keep, it played a crucial role in the castle's layout until it was destroyed by fire in 1882. Today, it exists as a large open space.
A variety of exhibits related to Himeji castle are located in key places.
